E-Dust Soiling Sensor

Every minute, the E-Dust compares the full I-V curves of two identical modules, one kept clean and one left to soil like the plant, and returns the soiling ratio at the maximum power point, as defined in IEC 61724-1.

Soiling is rarely uniform, and neither is the loss. Sensors that only compare short-circuit current see the light that does not arrive; the E-Dust measures the power that is not produced, which with uneven soiling can be much higher.

It works with two reference modules of the plant's own model: one is kept clean and the other soils like the rest of the array. Every minute it traces the full I-V curve of each one (150 points, four-wire connection) and calculates the soiling ratio, calibrated and temperature-compensated. The results go to the SCADA over Modbus TCP or directly to PVET Data Analytics, which shows daily, monthly and yearly losses and helps decide the best moment to clean.

Key features

  • Power, not just current: soiling ratio at the maximum power point (IEC 61724-1).
  • One curve per module, every minute: 150 points, four-wire, so cable resistance does not affect the measurement.
  • Temperature compensated: Voc method (IEC 60904-5) or two optional PT1000 probes.
  • Plant integration: Modbus TCP or TCP/IP to PVET Data Analytics, RJ45 Ethernet, 12/24 V DC.
  • Outdoors: installed on the structure next to its modules; IP67 and IP51 versions.
